Got a great idea but it’s just not coming out the way you want? This is the service for you. My focus here will be on your ideas and on your piece as a whole. I look at the whole structure of your piece, and suggest changes–from global to sentence level–that’ll help you say what you want to say better, more concisely, more clearly, and in a manner that’ll really communicate with your target audience.
Make It Shine! Comprehensive Copyediting
This is the ultimate, comprehensive “deep dive” into your piece. I look at all levels, from that of overall structure to that of sentence-level issues such as grammar and punctuation. I bring your piece in line with the style manual of your (or your publisher’s) choice, make sure footnotes and citations are correct, and make more developmental suggestions as necessary. This service gives you the cleanest copy possible.
Make It Speak! Basic Copyediting
Here I concentrate on the level of the paragraph and sentence. My focus is on clarity, style, brevity, grammar, common errors, and any special formatting you or your publisher may require.

Help Me! Writing Coaching and Instruction
You don’t even need a manuscript in hand for this one, just a desire to write!
- For individuals: Perhaps you’ve got something to express, but wouldn’t call yourself a writer. I can coach you through the process of moving past the blank page, from brainstorming and idea generation, to initial drafting, through revision to a final product. This can consist of anything from a few tutorial sessions to an ongoing “course.”
- For Homeschoolers and Co-ops: Take advantage of the expertise of someone who’s taught writing (both expository and creative) at the university level for over 25 years. I’m able to work with students from middle school to university level. Need an instructor to get your college-bound co-op group ready for those first college writing courses? I can offer anything from a few tutorial sessions to a semester-length, formal course. I can also offer tutoring and instruction in English and American literature, as well as the Latin language. Teaching has always been a passion of mine, alongside writing, and my most common reaction from students is that my own enjoyment of the material is infectious!
Pricing
Pricing for editorial work can vary quite a bit depending on the type and length of the manuscript, the desired timeframe, and the level of editing desired. As a rule of thumb, I generally charge $0.04 per word for proofreading and standard copyediting, and $0.05 per word for line editing or developmental editing. Coaching services are generally $60 per hour, though this is negotiable based on the type and duration of the coaching and the number of persons involved.
